How to Access Library Resources

Information about OpenAthens and EBSCO Discovery Service

Using Library Links

If you are off campus and using a library link to an eJournal, eBook, database, or streaming video, you will need to authenticate using OpenAthens to gain full access to that resource. You will need to use your ECU email and password.

Library links for these resources will take you to a login page that should look familiar, as seen below:

ECU login page

Log in with your ECU email and password, and you'll have access to library resources!

Authentication from Other Websites

When conducting research online, you may find login links on non-library websites, such as Google Scholar, journal publisher sites, and database websites. Some phrases that you might see are:

  • Login through your institution
  • OpenAthens
  • Shibboleth
  • Federated login
  • Find your institution
  • Access through your institution

Phrasing may vary between websites, but you will usually be asked to specify what institution you are with. Type in "East Central University" and then login with your ECU email and password to gain access to the library's subscribed content.

You might get some logins that ask for an OpenAthens individual account. Please ignore this and proceed to find your organization or institution. See below for an example:

Please note that Linscheid Library may not provide full access to every journal article or publication that you come across on the Internet. If you require access to materials that are not available in full-text, even after logging in with OpenAthens, you can place a request for that material through Interlibrary Loan.
