Developing a Research Question Activity
Steps for Developing a Research Topic
- Choose a topic and answer the following questions:
- Does this topic interest you enough?
- Is this topic creative enough?
- Is this topic too broad or narrow?
- Brainstorm/explore topic by mapping elements. (HINT: Use a free mind mapping app like MindMup)
- Write a research question.
- Do some preliminary searching to answer the following questions:
- What else has been written on this topic? (HINT: Don't limit yourself to only sources that EXACTLY match your research question)
- What other terms are relevant to this topic? (HINT: Different authors will use different terms to discuss the same topic)
- Revise research question as needed. (HINT: Remember research is circular, and your research question needs to be adaptable based on new information)
