Assignment Requirements

Keep these things in mind when working on your Evidence-Based Practice Group Project:

• Select one intervention PICO question to focus on
• Find articles for each of the four types of evidence (see the EXPLORE tab)
  • Systematic review or Meta Analysis
  • RCT or Quasi-Experimental 
  • Descriptive Correlational, Predictive Correlational, Cohort, Descriptive
  • Qualitative study
• Do not use editorial articles (opinion pieces)
• Your presentation will need to include your search strategies, so keep note of:
  • Where you find your articles (CINAHL, Cochrane Library, AHRQ, ILL, etc.)
  • How you found your articles (keyword search terms, subject tags, combinations of terms, etc.)
• ALL citations need to be in APA format (see the SHARE tab)

PICO Questions

P (Population/patient) – What individual or group is being studied?

I  (Intervention) – What is the action/treatment being considered?

C (Comparison) – To what other action/treatment are we comparing the considered action above?

O (Outcome) – What is the anticipated outcome?

Intervention Question Templates:

In _________(P), how does _________(I) compared to _________(C) affect _______(O)?

In _______(P), what is the effect of _______(I) on ______(O) compared with _______(C)?

Examples:

In adult patients with total hip replacements how effective is PCA pain medication compared to prn IM pain medication in controlling post operative pain? 

In patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, how does regular exercise compared to medication affect symptoms?

In the aged population, what is the effect of exercise programs on accidental falls, as compared with no exercise?

In men over 50, how does hydromorphone compared with acetaminophen affect pain relief after administration?
