A guide to help faculty with common technology problems they may experience while moving classes online.

General

How do I get a Zoom account?

Contact CETL in order to get your Zoom credentials.

How do I find my recorded Zoom meeting?

If the link that Zoom sends you after the meeting does not work, use the link provided to access your recording manually: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206277393-Finding-and-Viewing-Recordings

How do I share my screen or show an application rather than my camera feed in Zoom?

At the bottom of the Zoom window, you will find the “Share” button. Select the application you would like to share, and it will become your main video feed. If you were recording yourself, you will still be visible through a small picture-in-picture screen however, so be aware of that.

How can I make transcripts available for my lectures?

If you record to the cloud then bring it to the desktop, the transcription doesn’t come, so you will either need to record to desktop, then upload to the cloud, or copy the cloud transcript and paste it into a Word document for the student. You can find a tutorial on how to auto-transcribe your videos here: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115004794983-Automatically-Transcribe-Cloud-Recordings-

PLEASE NOTE: Due to current high demands on the Zoom servers, transcription may take more time than you think. Please send in a help desk ticket (ext. 884) if transcription has not finished in 24 hours.

Can I transfer videos from Zoom to VidGrid?

Your Zoom recordings automatically upload to VidGrid now! When you open VidGrid, you should see any recently recorded Zoom Meetings in your Grid.

  4. When students log in, they will see upcoming, previous, and recorded meetings for the course.
  5. You can also add this as a sidebar-level item by going to the new item menu on the top-left, selecting "Tool Link, and then setting "Type" to "Zoom Meeting".

I've heard that we're have a very limited amount of Zoom storage. Does that apply to device-saved recordings?

No, the storage space issue is related to files stored on the Zoom Cloud, not files stored on your devices. If you have items saved there, we ask that you ensure that they are stored on VidGrid or your storage device of choice, then delete them.
