CETL: Faculty Online Learning Technology FAQ

A guide to help faculty with common technology problems they may experience while moving classes online.

General

I want to learn more about how to use Blackboard. Where can I do this?

Open a help desk ticket (ext. 884) and ask for assistance. For a more self-directed approach, you can access Blackboard’s tutorial here: https://help.blackboard.com/Learn/Instructor.

What is the file size limit for Blackboard?

You can upload individual files as large as 100 megabytes to Blackboard and there is no limit to the number of individual files that you can upload.  For files larger than 100MB, either use VidGrid, or send in a help desk ticket (ext. 884) for assistance.

Can I create a Zoom meeting from Blackboard?

You cannot create a Zoom meeting in Blackboard. However, you can place a link in Blackboard for your students to access the meeting in Zoom, and you can use VidGrid to post the content of the Zoom meeting if you have a VidGrid account (for further information see the VidGrid and Zoom FAQs).

How do I access Zoom from Blackboard?

  1. Under Tools>More Tools, select "Zoom Meeting".
  2. This will bring up a Zoom interface within Blackboard.
  3. From here you can schedule zoom meetings for the class, and access course recordings, as well as your personal persistent meeting room.
  4. When students log in, they will see upcoming, previous, and recorded meetings for the course.
  5. You can also add this as a sidebar-level item by going to the new item menu on the top-left, selecting "Tool Link, and then setting "Type" to "Zoom Meeting".

How do I access Teams in Blackboard?

  1. Go to the control management area on the left toolbar.
  2. Click on course tools. The menu will expand.
  3. Scroll down to Microsoft Teams and click on the link.

  4. Follow the prompts.
