Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (2000) states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” ECU is committed to providing a learning, working and living environment that promotes personal integrity, civility, and mutual respect in an environment free of sexual misconduct and discrimination. For more information, refer to https://www.ecok.edu/policies-and-handbooks/title-ix-resources

In addition, Title IX makes it clear that violence and harassment based on sex and gender are Civil Rights offenses subject to the same kinds of accountability and the same kinds of support applied to offenses against other protected categories such as race, national origin, etc. If you or someone you know has been harassed or assaulted, you are encouraged to contact the ECU Police Department at (580) 559-5555 and/or the ECU Student Counseling Center at (580) 559-5714.  All services are confidential, student-centered, and free for all ECU students.
